I appreciate McClellan providing ample praise and justification for Marx while simultaneously giving a fair shake of his flaws, however banal and unsurprising they are. I will look into more of Marx's hilarious correspondences with his friends now...

Review # 2 was written on 2009-10-16 00:00:00 Kevin Rodgers This is both an intellectual and personal biography of Karl Marx written with sympathetic intelligence by a recognized authority on Marx and Marxism. Commentators (one appended) often cite it as the best biography of Marx in English. Having only read about four of them, I can only say the claim is quite plausible. In any case, the writing is clear, the scholarship good and the notes helpful.
