Review # 1 was written on 2021-02-06 00:00:00 Maureen Wobig I really should give this a 3.5 for the simple reason that Henslow--while a respected, charismatic, and influential scientist/clergy person--was also the sort of person whose actual life was rather mundane. That said, the book opens a window into a time of new ideas and possibilities. Good book. But good on small doses...

Review # 2 was written on 2012-02-25 00:00:00 KEVIN BUTLER I was very inspired by this woman's life, and I loved all the quotations from primary sources. I would love to see a modern biography written in a sightly more detached style, but I I nderstand many of the primary sources no longer exist. Mary Slessor was amazing, and this book, which has much scholarship to commend it, well worth the read.
