Review # 1 was written on 2012-12-19 00:00:00 Thomas Perrone I read poetry and generally keep a book with me for times I am standing in line. This book has poems by Elizabeth Barret Browning Alfred Lord Tennyson and Robert Browning. My favorite poem in this book was one of Robert Browning's - Prophyria's Lover. A rather dark poem that deals with the murder of a woman by her lover where Browning dwells on the erotic aspects of the wonam's murder and her dead body. This was the first time I read the poem and had to read it several times before I was better able to understand that Browning was not romanticizing love, but emphasising the ego of the man and his jealousy and posessiveness. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-01-29 00:00:00 Neal Secrist I really enjoyed grappling with Sprackland's intense reflections on her life; visceral & drenched with fluid emotions,a world tilted from its axis. New poetry must be challenging to compensate for so much old tilth produced by horny-handed & corn-fed poet-ploughmen & ploughwomen(?)! Something must grow from the seeded furrows that can be satisfyingly harvested by the hungry readers! A festival of good food can be devoured in this slim volume! |
