Review # 1 was written on 2014-04-25 00:00:00 Leticia Perez A masterful biography of a Victorian rebel who is now, sadly, nearly forgotten in literary history. One of the first English writers to bring French Naturalism, Symbolism and Decadence to the attention of his countrymen, he wrote a number of very influential novels and short stories in his day. And what a great subject for a bio--he knew and hated nearly everyone. He was a wit, an acerbic critic, and gossip. Delicious! |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-05-25 00:00:00 Donne Viau Did not know what "Crayon" referred to, BUT NOW I GET IT! (And what a delightful surprise!) I was able to lose myself in Irving's beautiful descriptions of faraway places, feeling like I accompanied him on each adventure, familiarizing myself with each place and its people. |
