STOP THE TEMPO: Three lost souls connect in Romania's night-life, and they find purpose in jolting fear into their fellow citizens but relatively mundane means (the turning off of power at public places). Much of the play deals with the disconnect between the tempo of our lives and the tempo of our insides. The play is both hyper and lonely. It's an interesting success. ROMANIA, KISS ME!: Three strangers on a train leaving Romania and they cant wait to get out. Stylistically interesting (all aspects of the train, the smells, visual and thematic undercurrents, etc are created by an orchestra of three men and whatever they can get their hands on) and emotionally visiral. Though it would take an actual production to see how well these all add up to a theatrical event. VITAMINS: I love this play. It surrealistically deals with a family who's troubles start out fairly typical and end up more bizzaar. It makes fun of how we as a society like to consmetically bandage up deep issues a la TV Talk Shows. ROMANIA 21: I'm conflicted about this play. It was written when the author was 21 and it shows, for both better and worse. While the show lacks the depth and maturity of a more experienced writer, it has a youthful exhuberance that is well appreciated. In fact, the play wears its superficiality like a badge of honor, which is it's thematic concern. Overall it works, though I do wish that the underlying darkness might poke through once or twice. WAXING WEST: Stylistically this play jumps back and forth in time and location, supertitles are announced, and former dictators exist as vampires and comment on the action. And yet this play feels the most conventional in the collection; somehow much of this feels like I've seen it somewhere before. The story is interesting though and the ending is really good.
