Review # 1 was written on 2014-06-05 00:00:00 Charles Johnson Outstanding! This book is in two parts: the first is a biography of her father, who was a remarkable man and who worked tirelessly for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a profound influence on Aurelia, although he was gone from home for many years serving various missions. This section also includes biographical information about herself and her siblings. The second part of the book is a history of the Primary Association of the Church. Sister Rogers is considered the "mother" of the Primary, since it was organized after her deep concerns for the little boys ("hooligans") of her ward. She served as her ward and stake Primary president, but never as the General Primary president. However, she was known and loved by all, as was attested by the many acknowledgements she received even during her lifetime. She also served as a delegate from Utah to a national women's suffrage convention in Atlanta, Georgia. She had a cherished dream of writing and publishing her book about her father and family and about Primary, but for many years was unable to come up with the financial means to do so. So, Primaries throughout the Church came up with ways to raise money and donated it to her, so that she could have her dream fulfilled. Aurelia is a good writer, giving enough detail to make things interesting, and yet not getting bogged down in too much detail. Her soul shines through as faithful, humble, and persevering in the face of sorrow and disappointment. Her favorite motto was "Always look on the bright side of everything." Thank you, Aurelia! |
