Rex Harrison was always one of my favorite actors.

Nothing special about this stage memoir, published just after Harrison's death. It's mostly about his theatrical work, and that makes it pretty dull since most of us have never seen the shows he has mentioned. Unfortunately I saw him in his second-to-the-last Broadway production, where he was slow, stumbling, tired, and not the legendary performer I expected. You'd never know it by this book, where he has no problem praising himself and his performances. There are some good chapters that go into details about My Fair Lady and Doctor Dolittle. He skips through most of the other movies, though he states a few jabs at co-workers like Charlton Heston. Otherwise it's just a whole lot about his theater shows, and while he calls himself a comedian I've never found him particularly funny in any role. There's almost nothing of his private life. His childhood gets a couple pages, his six wives barely get mentioned (other than the one who died young), and his children are virtually ignored. If you're a theater buff and want to reminisce about some of his long ago stage work then you'll enjoy this, otherwise it seems incomplete because he short-changes his movies and his private life.
