Review # 1 was written on 2020-07-04 00:00:00 David Luck This very concise biography follows chronologically all the stages of Ibsen's life and career, from his obscure youth and miserable middle-age in exile to his prosperous old age as the prominent man of letters of Norway. Edmund Gosse has known and met Ibsen several times but the personal anecdotes are underwhelming. What is also cruelly missing is a short synopsis of each play that gets analysed, analyses which remain very summary and allusive anyway. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-01-27 00:00:00 Ryan Cave I have always loved the work of Henrik Ibsen, especially after reading The Doll's House, as well as seeing the movie. However, I had never read his biography. This was a very interesting, and comprehensive, book about his life. I am very happy to have read it!!! |
