The story of a free black town in New Jersey where generation of blacks who migrated north found a safe place to settle in the north. But what will the residents do when progressive city planners decide to wipe out the town to make way for a new highway? Like the quote: "Everyone knew the old one, scratch a white liberal and find a die-hard bigot. However scratch a black conservative and you'll find an angry radical was news." - Fess Roaney. Who will win, the town or progress??? Well worth the read!!!

One of my new top fives. The book speaks of a time I didn't grow up in, but by reading this book felt I was placed in the time period. I am sure many will read this and find it a little less than PC, but, like most novels, you must take with a little grain of salt. There is humor, sadness, life lessons, theology, philosophy, thriller, and a few more genres all rolled up into a book that didn't get published when it should have. Read it, and think of it how you may, but read it!
