Review # 1 was written on 2020-12-18 00:00:00 Christopher Gagliardi I haven't had a chance to read all of this (the only copy I have access to is a library book), but so far it's tons of fun. Being from Naples, these scenarios have lots of relatively obscure masks like Coviello and Pimpinella, along with (of course) everyone's favorite chicken-themed Neapolitan trailer trash! They're a little vague compared to the world-famous Frenchified Venetian guys, but still interesting. If you're a sensitive person, though, just be aware that reading this will suddenly make you see Flaminio Scala as a gentleman. 9w9; (It's not that it's dirtier, but it's -- somehow -- a lot less chivalrous.) But c'mon, it's got Pulcinella, in a wedding dress, on crutches, pretending to be Isabella. And then he starts beating on her suitor's father. I love Commedia dell'Arte. |
