Review # 1 was written on 2015-11-01 00:00:00 Jonathon Havener La bibliografía sobre la expansión Norteamericana en el siglo XIX es escasa en español, Gregorio Doval hace una interesante recopilación de los principales aspectos que propiciaron la expansión estadounidense durante este período abarcando los más diversos temas, desde el papel que desempeño la expedición de Lewis y Clark hasta la repartición de terrenos en Oklahoma. Sin embargo el libro tiene algunos detalles: * Los pies de fotos son copia de algunos párrafos del libro, lo que hace que las imágenes (a pesar de ser cuidadosamente seleccionadas) hagan de la lectura un trabajo más lento. * Algunos errores de redacción y estilo, el más notable es la confusión de la ciudad de Monterey, California con Monterrey. (Capital del estado de Nuevo León) Fuera de eso, es un material interesante y completo para iniciar en el análisis y conocimiento de un período apasionante en la historia de Estados Unidos.

Review # 2 was written on 2020-02-26 00:00:00 Andrew Rogers I was disappointed in this book. I had highly anticipated reading this book for several years. I had the impression it was about a journey from Missouri to Oregon or California on the Oregon Trail. The author only traveled perhaps half of the trail and did not comment or even mention the iconic landmarks like Chimney Rock. Or what it felt like to ride in a Conestoga Wagon. Rather the author regaled us with reasons why the "white" man was so superior. Indeed he ranked in order men of the prairie thusly: 1. Whites 2. Indians. 3. Mexicans. Gave a biased snap shot of life on the prairie and demonstrated why there are no buffalo left: they were all shot- some for sport and trophies; some for food. The Native Americans depended in them to live. The book shows the beginning of the destruction of the prairie and the beginning of the displacement if the Native American.
