Review # 1 was written on 2014-05-28 00:00:00 Erik Roos This historical account, published in 1874, covers the origins of Scotland and carries on through to the nineteenth century. Although this was aimed at American students, it didn't deter my English self from reading it. This is not an exhaustive work but it covers the main points in Scottish history. The downside to this is that on many occasions the reader is faced with numerous different names, followed by said person's title, all crammed close together, making it all hard to digest and remember who's who. Of course, with it being tailored for students, it has a textbook feel. Worth reading if you want to learn a few basic points from Scotland's past. If you want something more detailed or less academic in feel, best option would be to look for something else. Good thing about this is that Project Gutenberg and other sites have it available for free download.

Review # 2 was written on 2019-09-01 00:00:00 John Brody Hilarious look at the world of cabaret through the experienced eyes of Kelner who misses nothing. Whether on board cruise ships or in some backwater Working Mens Club, Kelner gives them an honest but (mostly) sympathetic once over. Albeit from another era now this is a sometimes wry and often self mocking look at the world of Phoenix Nights and beyond.
