Review # 1 was written on 2013-07-30 00:00:00 Cynthia Saad I found this biography of Alfred Steiglitz utterly riveting...partly because of the excellent writing and partly because of the persona being studied. The writing is thorough, well-researched and, as any good biography does, brings to life its subject magnificently. The author pulls no punches and gives a full and honest portrait, bringing to full flower all of the flaws of character, highs of creative achievement, and heart-wrenching moments of despair that constituted Steiglitz's life. It was also refreshing to read about him on his own terms and not just through the lens of Georgia O'Keefe, his more famous wife. The biography is so thoroughly done that the bonus effect is that it provides an array of mini biographies of all the artists who surrounded him. Can't recommend highly enough!

Review # 2 was written on 2017-09-29 00:00:00 Sarah Childers This is a very good, not great biography. Stieglitz was a an incredible person, one of those bigger-than-life people that come along every century or so. Don't miss reading about his life. There are several biographies available. This one has a particular emphasis on Stieglitz's personal life and his place in art history.
