Review # 1 was written on 2012-05-18 00:00:00 James Callaghan It was unfortunate that Brandon wrote what could hae been an interesting biography of the great Sarah Bernhardt and decided to try to psychoanalyze her instead. Brandon is not a therapist and destroyed her credibility as a biographer by suggesting that Bernhardt suffered from the malady de jour (the book was written in the 90s), multiple personality disorder. Nothing in Bernhardt's life, no comments from her friends, lovers or even Bernhardt's enemies support Brandon's hypthesis and the biography suffers because of it.
