Reading Level: 3.7 Book Summary: This is a collection of poems all about sports. Bookshelf Genre: Poetry Characteristics that support the genre: The poems in this book as rhythmic and sound. Bookshelf Mentor Writing Traits: Presentation: The pictures that accompany each poem show the reader what each poet is writing about. These pictures help the readers visualize the poems. Classroom Integration: A lot of young boys like to play sports. I think this would be a good book to include in a poetry unit for these students to see that you can incorporate your love of sports into their poetry. Connecting the content to what they like will be important when trying to reach these young students.

This is a wonderful poetry book for young children who play sports or are sports fans. There are poems in this collection about baseball, soccer, track and field, ice skating, and basketball. After reading the poems, children could create a poem of their own about their favorite sport.
