This book surprised me because it was FUN to read. Those of you preparing for college (and your parents) will enjoy reading this book. The chapters are short and the language is clear. The advice grows out of common sense, experience, and the author's memorable stories. I read this while I was in the midst of attending law school and I found this book worthwhile and sensible. The good: Packed full of practical knowledge; you don't need to read it cover-to-cover so you can use it to answer your specific questions; the book covers a broad range of topics. The bad: This book will not make you cool and popular but it will help you avoid jail, sidestep financial ruin, make good decisions, and enable you to get the most of your college experience.

I dislike sounding 'below the line' or 'negative'; however, although an easy read, I did not feel I found anything new in this book from any other self-help or professional book. New names for old hat, perhaps. Another way to put a 'positive' spin on what is wrong in education & how to handle it. (You can't do anything about it, so just smile & stay above the line. Lemons to lemonade, buddy!) Even a way to get rid of friends, essentially (because they are a weight of negativity, not a benefit). Reminds me of Amway rhetoric. I get it. But...educators are tired of being told to toe the line, ignore, smile, & if you pretend hard enough, it'll all go away. It should be noted that this was a professional book given to us by admin for a faculty study. It was not a 'free choice' reading.
