Very good book on special relativity, with sufficient mathematics to explain the theory and at the same time includes certain ideas of his own (presumably) as to how to make sense of the theory in comparison to the heavily rooted Newtonian Theory. Recommended to anyone interested in the mathematics as well as the logic behind the theory.

I found this book from a cross-reference in Peter Senge's book, The Fifth Discipline, quite the happy accident if I might say so myself. As someone with a background in information architecture and engineering, this is one of the few books that takes the time to explore the implications of modern science ' to the point of even questioning the role of science itself. I purchased this book for a very specific purpose, which was to gain access to the 42 page Appendix entitled "Physics & Perception". Through this Appendix, Bohm takes the time to carefully explore the role of science, directly questioning the conventional perspective that the aim of science is to uncover the "truth" about a world that is "out there" and inherently separate from our perceptions. To replace this notion, Bohm posits that the true role of science is to expand our perception, gaining insights as both our perceptions and the domain of our explorations expand outward together. I found this work refreshingly honest, particularly due to the historical approach he takes towards science to explain how science "actually works". As a side note, I probably would have given this book 5 stars instead of 4 if I was more familiar with some of the mathematics involved. However, with that said, Bohm writes from the perspective of a true teacher ' seeking to help others understand and explore, rather than simply indoctrinate his readers with his own perspectives.
