Greg Taylor's companion to The Lost Symbol was actually more interesting than The Lost Symbol itself, in my opinion. The historical background information presented truly falls into the "not the stuff they taught in school" category, which made it all the more interesting to me. I've never really been a student of history, but after reading this book, I'm eager to learn more. The other topics broached in the book are topics I find extremely fascinating - cryptography and noetics. Taylor briefly touches on each topic, devoting a chapter to each, far less than I would have liked. This book could easily have been twice as long! The true value here, however, is the list of resources he provides to additional in-depth information on each subject. My to-read list keeps growing exponentially. The more I learn, the more I want to learn and keep learning. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who read The Lost Symbol and was intrigued by the story behind the story. It provides wonderful background information and the list of resources is superb!

I'm using this book as well as two other books on Engineering Mathematics by B.S Grewal and Michael Greenberg. According to me this is a great book to learn D.E. and vector calculus and the book is very good as it has covered all the necessary topics with practical examples(I like this feature). But I would say if you have weak basic concepts then go for B.S Grewal and Michael Greenberg before coming on to this books as this book do not cover all the basic concepts and contains very less solved problem. But,Yes,everything is explained with clarity and cover a lot of advanced approaches. You can also use this book if you are preparing for Gate, but I recommend using other books as well, for better understanding, but if you don't want to brawl your brain than this book is enough.
