Review # 1 was written on 2017-12-14 00:00:00 Jason Laflin This book is very easy to follow even if you're a neophyte, though it's obviously written for professional architects. I love the frequent eco tips, and I even learned a thing or two about plumbing and heating. It addresses everything from construction methods to their implementation, how to efficiently make use of different types of energy. There's even a special chapter on permaculture, and how we can use permaculture principles to plan our living environment. The emphasis on healthy buildings and thus the health of humans and ecosystems is a boon for people who want to build their own ecologically-minded space. All in all, it's a good primer on architecture, and can help anyone outline the basic needs of their living space -and solutions for those needs- based on a holistic method. It's a good companion to Christopher Alexander's books, namely The Timeless Way Of Building and A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction. |
