Review # 1 was written on 2020-04-08 00:00:00 Michael Nguyen This book...🤔 what can I say...not bad at all in regards to the topics mentioned, however it brushed over the majority of them which I can maybe see why because then the book would be twice as long. Lol I think that is mainly what bothered me the most about it, is the chapters where it really begins to dive into Black Culture were far fewer pages than Dyson’s personal beliefs on religion, teaching, etc....first part of the book was definitely his thoughts, views and reflections on the starting topics. Not at all a bad thing because from start to finish there are sooooooo many things mentioned that can seriously be amazing discussions and debates within our inner circle to learn more about one another and ourselves as a black people on a deeper level. Would have definitely liked more into the Malcom and Martin comparisons, black families and Black Panther portions personally. Overall not a bad read, just don’t expect it to read like a discussion but more so a list of what makes and plagues the Black Community/Culture and leaves the rest for you to discuss amongst your folks.
