My Dad was a Democrat...I suppose he'd even have been called a Yellow Dog Democrat. Born and raised in the south he was a member of the "Party of the People" his whole life. And he wouldn't recognize the party that goes by that name now. The party of John F. Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey is today the party of the "special interest. (How many of you are aware that Ronald Reagan was a Democrat earlier in his career?) Zell Miller was also a Democrat and in this book he charts the demise of the party's representation of it's members and it's transformation to the new home of the (exclusive) left. With intelligence and pulling no punches the former Marine Sergent, Lieutenant Governor, Governor and Senator tells the story. In 2003 he wrote this book and one can't help but feel he did it with a certain amount of hope that it wasn't all over...is it? For now the Democrat party is basically the left wing of American politics replacing the Socialist party in all but name...not the party it once was.
