Review # 1 was written on 2015-08-27 00:00:00 Lonny Edwards Blake dispenses cautionary advice, sounding a lot like a deli proprietor who writes an advice column on the side (which he is, and does, for the Orange County Register). Though the book is easy to read and offers encouraging success stories - as well as some failures from which to learn - it's also a bit bland, with much material parroted from reader contributors. Blake raises some touchy issues (e.g., who pays for the date, sex, dating at work, younger dating older) but fails to draw many conclusions. Some direct advice does surface, such as "If you're … 'a few pounds overweight,' you'd be better off addressing those issues before you start dating," and practical tips include "hardware stores … have favorable men-to-women ratios." Wary in tone (e.g., those aged 50-plus are a fast-growing STD population), this is a beginning point rather than a directional beacon for singles. Libraries already owning Blake's Middle Aged and Dating Again should hold off; instead, consider John Amodeo's The Authentic Heart: An Eightfold Path to Midlife Love.
