Review # 1 was written on 2013-10-31 00:00:00 Rick Ferrara This is one of the best books I've read in a long while. Solomon Bard is a wonderful storyteller who is knowledgeable on such a great variety of topics: music, archeology, history, medicine... Being Russian myself, I was intrigued by his recollections of his childhood in Siberia, travels to Moscow and the Crimea, coming of age in Harbin and Shanghai...but I enjoyed most of all his descriptions of Hong Kong, the city that has become my home... a wonderful read! |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-05-07 00:00:00 Darian Duca This book wasn't great but I liked learning about other neighborhoods in Chicago that I never make it too. I'd like to take a tour of the Pullman area and I learned of a restaurant on the west side I'd like to try. Cicero also sounds like a crazy place. The book was pretty light and probably not as memorable as "There are no Children Here" but it's still worth reading. |
