Review # 2 was written on 2019-09-28 00:00:00 Kari Landry Personal Response: This was a cute little folk tale from the United States (Appalachians). The illustrations are really beautiful and colorful and the story is easy to follow and funny. Purposes: This would be a great read-aloud book to students, especially in lower elementary. The book has great literary devices such as repetition and onomatopoeia. The repetition in the book makes it very easy for a 1st grader or maybe even a Kindergartener to read out loud in a small group with students and the teacher, or to read on their own independently. This could also bring up a great instruction about folk literature and that they are born from the oral tradition. This book could bring up explanations of how folk literature varies across cultures and how it is the same. Motifs and genres of folk literature could also be used as a lesson in the classroom. |
