Review # 1 was written on 2016-12-24 00:00:00 Chris Taylor I typically enjoy any book dealing with prospecting as the setting but these stories were flat as a pancake. Not well written and at least one person in every story hits the mother lode and gets rich which in reality happened to less than one percent of the people who left for the gold fields. Grudgingly added to the rest of my mining books.

Review # 2 was written on 2019-04-25 00:00:00 Lucas Wright After reading a half-dozen of these historical accounts of the mine wars I've come to a consensus on them. There is little positive to say about mine owners. Their greed and disregard for the condition of their workers drove these men and their families to the breaking point. This area of West Virginia is most justified in their distrust of government and strong support of gun rights. Lessons for today? Will the burgeoning gap between the haves and have-nots lead to a similar schism?
