I am looking to train and compete in competitive obedience. There aren't too many books on the subject (and tend to get lost in general obedience books which are endless) so I was glad to find one that focuses on clicker training. It's a very thorough book with methods to train most things in obedience. I've used several of them while there are others where I feel that other trainers have established a better system to train certain things (heeling for one). I really like the concept of the fluencies and have trained many of them since I first got my puppy. When it comes to dog training I like to read up on as many different methods as possible so that I can pick and choose depending on me and my dog. This book helped me adding training methods to my toolbox and I frequently check up on various things for guidance and/or comparison. This book is useful and I recommend it but I also recommend that people research other methods that are being used in today's competitive obedience. Clicker training / positive training for dog sports is developing rapidly at this time and there are a lot of clever and fun methods to train dogs that people are discovering and polishing.

Easily, EASILY the best book on dog training I've ever read. The book is encyclopedic for getting your dog's best behavior. That said, it's also a lot denser than the average dog training book because it's written for dog owners who wish to compete in competitive obedience events. It's not for everyone, but if you really want to know about how to train a dog, this is the book for you.
