I wanted to give this book 3 1/2 stars because it was better than a 3, but I reserve 4's for books I really like a lot (I rarely give 5's--that's for beautifully written classics like Pride and Prejudice). Scholarly books are hard for me to rate because I'm not an expert. Anyway, I learned a ton from this book, but it's not masterfully written (very few academic books are.)I've read a lot of Margaret Barker, and so I'm familiar with many of the themes she brings up, but there was plenty of new material here. I love reading about the Jerusalem temples and the symbolism involved, and I like comparing and contrasting it all with the LDS temple and its doctrine of eternal progression and exaltation.

Absolutely loved this! Every page is marked up! I just started "The Great High Priest" by Margaret Barker today. If you're a serious student of the Bible and early Christianity, this is worth owning.
