Published in 1972, the book is a bit dated. Still, it contains some intrellectual wallop. The author notes a key point at the outset (Page 1): "The corporate image of society turned American schools into a central social institution for the production of men and women who conformed to the needs and expectations of a corporate and technocratic role." Chapter after chapter, Spring strives to develop evidence to back up his assertion. The ends result is a thought provoking work. Can be usefully read in juxtaposition with Bowles' and Gintis' book on schooling in capitalist America. One may or may not agree, but one will confront arguments that generate useful duscussion.

For an Intro to SPED class. I thought this was pretty thorough.
