Review # 1 was written on 2015-08-05 00:00:00 Jody Johnston This is a fascinating subject, more so than you may think. The illustrations are well suited to the text 90% of the time, which is better than usual for this publisher. The text does not quite get the balance right between telling too much and too little, erring several times on the side of too much. If this sounds like a good fault, it isn't in a book for general readers. de Bourgoing sometimes encumbers us in details that do not matter to the big picture. Perhaps the books deserves three stars, but it satisfied a lot of curiosity for me, so I may be giving it better than it deserves. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-12-29 00:00:00 Charle Kim A fast, interesting read on the history of calandars and their effect on our history. (Oddly, my copy ends in the middle of a sentence, but I get where it was going. Perhaps the author was a fan of The Sopranos?) |
