Review # 1 was written on 2009-03-14 00:00:00 Mickey Rymer This is a fairly pedestrian academic collection, not one which advances much new ground--so far as I can tell, anyway--regarding theories of urban leadership. There is something to be learned from the multiple case studies though. I especially liked the one on David Rusk and his short mayoralty in Albuquerque, NM: partly because I sense some real similarities between that city's situation and Wichita's, and partly because it gave a close, if too brief, snapshot of the threats which any kind of sustainable or slow-growth urbanism might involve. It's a fascinating little essay, and reminds me that I really need to read Rusk's Cities Without Suburbs, particularly the updated 2010 edition, sometime soon. |
