Review # 1 was written on 2011-10-04 00:00:00 David Scott This is a very misleading title. I was expecting to find places to go and find gems and minerals. Not here in Pa or many other states covered. Also this book is copyrighted 2009 so some sites may not be available today. Book is mostly museum listings, some mine tours, and very few fee dig sites. Very disappointing. If you can find a copy in your local library, by all means take the 5 minutes you will need to see what your state has to offer. Otherwise, not recommended.

Review # 2 was written on 2014-06-02 00:00:00 Rick Allen Of the two, Mycophilia: Revelations from the Weird World of Mushrooms is the more readable and interesting for a general audience. CDAN was very enjoyable as a cross between a field guide and narrative, though. It's divided into chapters generally about specific fungi, but instead of a very brief field-guide description, there's a longer discussion of the mushroom's properties, history, identification, and so on. If and when I take up mushroom hunting and growing, I'll absolutely buy a copy to keep as a reference.
