Review # 1 was written on 2016-03-24 00:00:00 Andy Williams This is a really fun guide to historic walking tours in New York City. This book is written by historians, there is actually a group that will take you on the tours if you come to New York City. If however you prefer to go at your own pace, this book is really great. I have done several of the tours in this book and learned so much about the city that I was once a tourist in but now call home. It's a good way to see past the usual tourist fare (i.e. Times Square, Macy's, Rockefellar Center, Empire State Building, etc). |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-02-06 00:00:00 Larry Dian This gem of a book was a forerunner to the spate of cemetery books available today. For easy reference, Permanent New Yorkers is handily divided into chapters headed by the names of New York's most famous graveyards. Each chapter is further broken by either name or location of some of its most interesting permanent residents. A number of black & white photos augment certain monument descriptions. If you buy only one cemetery compendium, I suggest this one. |
