The late Colonel Harold B. Simpson was the primary author and resource of General John B. Hood's famous Texas Brigade aka Hood's Brigade that fought with the Army of Northern Virginia under the command of General Robert E. Lee during the Civil War from 1861-1865. Over a 10 year span, Colonel Simpson wrote a series of books about Hood's Brigade and his most famous books in the series comprised of four books: - Hood's Texas Brigade: Lee's Grenadier Guard - Hood's Brigade In Poetry and Song - Hood's Brigade in Memory and Reunions - Hood's Brigade: A Compendium Hood's Brigade: A Compendium is the last of the series and contains the roster from Brigade Command to regiment level of every soldier mustered under Hood's Texas Brigade. The book is broken down into regimental level and gives a brief history of every soldier. The contents of the book is as follows: - Dedication - Preface Part One Rosters Headquarters, Hood's Texas Brigade 1st Texas Infantry Regiment 4th Texas Infantry Regiment 5th Texas Infantry Regiment 3rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment 18th Georgia Infantry Regiment Hampton's South Carolina Legion (Infantry Battalion) Rowan Artillery (Co.D) 1st North Carolina Artillery Regiment Part Two Illustrations (Same Breakdown as above) Part Three Statistical Charts and Summaries Company Statistics Chart I - Regimental Casualties Chart II - Regimental Losses Other Than Battle Chart III - Casualties for Six Major Battles Chart IV - Regimental Mortality By Disease Chart V - Types of Wounds Reported in the Wilderness-Spotsylvania Campaign Chart VI - Causes for Discharge Part Four Brigade Trivia Miscellaneous Facts and Figures Bibliography Index The breakdown is very thorough especially for the records of the Confederate Soldiers Colonel Simpson had to research. Confederate Records were not nearly as complete and thorough as Union Records were. This is an INVALUBALE BOOK that is a must for any serious researcher, student, or historian of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. All of Colonel Simpson's books are outstanding and this OUTSTANDING BOOK completes the series of Hood's Texas Brigade thoroughly and accurately. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
