Review # 1 was written on 2015-08-17 00:00:00 G�l Attila 4 stars - but to say "I really liked it" is not entirely accurate. The writing is about as exciting as your average textbook, but it was organized, easy to navigate and informational. I found it to be a great companion read to The Killer Angels, just to fill in the gaps of my seriously lacking knowledge of the Civil War. History is not my best subject. I find it more interesting in small doses rather than in meticulous detail, (which is why I usually stick with historical fiction) so this was perfect, providing detail on the movements and decisions of the two armies while breaking out into subsections that discussed artillery, weapons, cavalry, notable people, etc. without bogging down the rest of the text. There are numerous photos, diagrams and maps throughout, as well as a color portfolio of military art. My copy was missing most of this section, whether from age or thieving library patrons I can only guess.

Malin This description of the campaign which culminated in the Battle of Gettysburg, is a little bit of a struggle to wade through, but is full of charts, maps, and side-bar entrees on various topics. Author Albert Nofi is the editor-in-chief of The Great Military Campaigns of History series. Personal side-bar: Al Nofi is not only an historian and author, but is also a wargame designer with games on a variety of topics, including the American Civil War.
