Review # 1 was written on 2016-12-24 00:00:00 Kaye Wade I was revisiting this collection after citing the introduction in my dissertation and returning to it for consideration in helping to articulate queer identities in geographies. The editors made interesting choices in the collection in terms of organization, but many of the short stories and memoir pieces left a mark. It's a book that has aged well, but I was also disappointed that it was so Chicago-centric, and left me wanting for more anthologies, particularly hungry for a contemporary QTPOC creative writing anthology from the Midwest. |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-04-24 00:00:00 Matthew Majeski More sad than helpful. I knew about hate crimes and discrimination already. I was hoping for something about how to gain trust and what resources to refer people to. Not middle-school level info and a tiny list of resources in the back. (And I'm pretty sure ACT UP, for example, is a political organization, and that Lamda Legal would be a better resource for those with HIV.) |
