Review # 1 was written on 2021-02-16 00:00:00 Colleen Chase If I look at the 4.5 average rating as given by other readings, I simply can not agree with this. I do not understand why people rate this book a "must-read". I read the book and when I compare it with other books that cover a prison riot, this book is a dissapointment. I gave the book a three star rating and I think this is even generous. The score I gave is mainly supported by the second part of the book: i.e. the book covering the riot itself. The other two parts describe the situation before and after the riot and are not that interesting. This book would have been a way better read in case it would have had a continuous storyline. In the current format, the chapters consist of a lot of separate subtopics. Sometimes I had the idea I was reading a scientific report... What I especially did not like, is the third part of the book: i.e. the part discussing the things happening after the riot. This part even included a very dull and long chapter including the outcome of a report written. Imagine long and dull bulletpoint lists stating what was wrong. And it just is straightforward stuff like education for the guards, more guards, ... After some pages I decided to skip the remainder of this chapter.

Review # 2 was written on 2010-10-28 00:00:00 Ward Gambrell My sister gave me this book a number of years ago and I liked it a lot at that time. I re-read it a few months ago and enjoyed it even more. Now that I'm actually driving all over Ohio and VISITING some of the places mentioned in the book, I'm able to appreciate the writer's details and anecdotes in a new and better way.
