Review # 1 was written on 2018-11-29 00:00:00 Graham Wells Valerie Worth is one of my favorite poets because of the power of her simplicity. Her All the Small Poems and Fourteen More is a book I can return to again and again and find something new to love and think about. This book of Christmas poetry, which takes us from the first days of December to a surprising and witty poem about spring ("By the muddy path / Glints a single / Crumpled strand / Of Christmas tinsel"), is perfect for the season. "Light String" and "Christmas Night" are two standouts here. My only complaint is the illustrations, which I found flat and unappealing; these little poems of joy, tenderness and thoughtfulness deserved illustrations that were equally joyful, tender, and thoughtful (art is subjective though).
