Review # 1 was written on 2011-06-13 00:00:00 Pammy Campton This is a cute folk tale for young readers around second grade reading level. The story is similar to the Spanish folk tale of Puss and Boots. A poor man saves a monkey, who then helps the poor man become rich in a creative manner. It's a fun story with a handful of local Filipino terms which help grow the child's vocabulary and world awareness. I think it is a good story with nice illustrations; however, it wasn't extra-special, so I gave it 3 stars. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-02-28 00:00:00 Ted Wadkins This trickster tale from the Philippines will entertain readers as they try and figure out how a corn-stealing monkey helps a poor farmer become rich and marry the girl of his dreams. It reminded me that I should reread the Puss in Boots story since I can't seem to remember what happened there so I can compare these two versions of the same story plot. |
