A very honest and intriguing dialogue on how language and the social constructs of race, class and national origin that were imposed by European imperialism and colonialism and their continuing effects on cultural identity in the Caribbean. He also stresses the importance of understanding the relationship that power, as well as social constructs and institutions, play in subjugating a group of people and how he feels the people of the former West Indies can began to establish a collective, dignified cultural identity outside of the European legacy of bondage, racism and post-colonial oppression. I will definitely be adding 'In The Castle of My Skin' to my "To Read" list!
