As an introduction, this book did a good job telling the story of Kyoto being the ancient capital of Japan and the centre of cultural & traditions. It have a lot of beautiful pictures! However, this book was published almost 50 years ago, so I'm wondering how Kyoto have changed since. What had to be sacrifice for modernization throughout the years? Anyway, read this because after reading 福家堂本舗 1 Fukuyadou Honpo 1 series, I became so curious about the setting of this manga, that is Kyoto city & its people.

Thirty walking tours -- I did several of them (or portions) and found Clancy's information helpful, though I wish some of the maps that accompany the text were a little easier to read. Or at least the one for Arashiyama.
