Review # 1 was written on 2009-01-04 00:00:00 Jerr Affer Great work on the lead-up to WWII, the development of Japanese fascism, and the Occupation as well as the foundation for Japan's post-war "miracle." However, it only goes to 1972, and offers no real insight into the bubble economy or Japan's more modern history- due to the age of the work. So, very much recommended for those things, but not as complete an account of the 20th century as one might think at first glance. Still keeps to the same high standards of historiography of the other volumes, with some variance on the quality between each segment, as each is done by different historians. |
