Even the Bears couldn't save this book - 1.5* I'm giving an extra 1/2 star because I've made just under half a page of notes from a 600 page book. It reminded me of my belief that teachers should empower children with the opportunity to become independent. The book was written in 2000 but just felt disastrously old. This book is an introduction to educational psychology. I didn't realise this. I knew about the majority of the theories mentioned, which I'd learnt about either in A Levels or earlier study in university. Bears kept popping up and there were facts about bears but to be honest I don't know why it was there. So disappointing. Eve S

This is a good intro into psychology. However, I felt that starting with the mechanics off the brain in the beginning made it rather intense and didn't help as much as I think the author intended. Some of the chapters mixed concepts that I didn't feel went together cohesive, so that became an issue, especially in later chapters. Most of the examples are relatable and well explained. The book is a good overview psychology, but I felt the heavy focus on neurobiology in the first handful of chapters set me back as a reader instead of getting me along.
