"The United Provinces, which had proved themselves the benefactors of the United States and France during the gigantic struggle just terminated, must then be considered the real and only victims of the American Revolution." It is a remarkably interesting conclusion after chapters about the Dutch Republic dragging its feet and hoping Russia or Prussia would step in and help fight their battles. While sometimes dry, this is a fascinating read simply because it focuses entirely on the Dutch Republic and their experience with the rest of Europe during the American Revolution. While the United States obviously plays a role, it is much more focused on all the behind the scenes international relations in Europe. I didn't realize England faced so much pressure from countries like Spain and Russia during the war. I have no idea how this one ended up in my Google Books but it was interesting. (And thankfully short.)
