Review # 1 was written on 2020-08-01 00:00:00 Michael Miller 2.5 stars, not at all what I expected to read. The author tells the lives of numerous famous women of the time period. I would have loved to learn more about the lives of women in general, not just a few privileged ones, especially when the authors goes on tangeants that aren't relevant to her main subject matter. The author is obviously passionate and knows what she's talking about, it's a shame that the book is poorly edited and marketed. Some end of page anotations would have made it more accessible as well, had I not known all the clerical vocabulary and many of the historical figures already I think I would have tore out my hair! Had it all been like the first couple of chapters I think I could have powered through to the very last page but I had to speed read and skip bits here and there. At least it isn't too long a history book..
