This was actually the second reading of this book. I first read it after reading "First We have Coffee" by Margaret Jensen, given to me by a friend during the time I was in Chemo treatments for breast cancer. That book was so wonderful I soon bought copies & distributed them to everyone I knew. It wasn't long before I had purchased & read every Margaret Jensen book I could get my hands on. This is one of them. I appreciated the natural manner in which Lena witnessed to those in her pathway. An example would be the young man who came into the College infirmary where she & Margaret worked in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was a Pharmaceutical Representative & had shared with Lena that he & his wife were adopting a child. She said to him, "The Bible says, 'Train up a child in the way he should go,' and I asks you what way you be thinking about training that baby God be giving you?" The young man replied, "I don't know. Never thought much about it." To which Lena responded, "Now is a good time, for you, the Papa, to be getting the house in order, before God gives you that baby. Jesus said, 'I am the way.' First, you get in the right way, then the Mama, & then you both teach the baby the right way." Lena was not well educated in the wisdom of this world, but she was well versed in the wisdom of God. Her words regarding her trust in the Word of God are profound. "Everything I need to know be right here in your Word. I thank you, Jesus, I can read & what I don't understand Your Spirit can teach me. Thank you, Jesus!" Addressing the subject of work, Lena said, "There be jobs, & then there be work. The jobs come along to give that piece of money to pay the rent. Sometimes that be a waiting time until God says, 'Now I give you a work to do.' That be a knowing that your work is unto the Lord, even if it be on the job. Some folks never learn that the cooking, cleaning, sweeping, & yard work, mopping & carrying out garbage cans, is a work, an offering to God-well pleasing in His sight." The author & her sister, reflect back on the example of prayer Lena gave them. "If two agree it shall be done, so before I leave for home, let's do what Lena does-call out our children's names. First we offer praise & thanksgiving & make our petitions known. We don't know what the future holds for our children or their mates & the children to come, but we know The One Who holds the future. Rebellion comes in many forms, sometimes obvious, sometimes subtle. Let's covenant together that all our children & their children will know the miracle of God's redemptive love. Our children have a godly heritage, but each one has to make a personal choice. We can't make that happen, but God can through the power of intercession." I am very much looking forward to meeting Lena & Margaret in heaven.
