Review # 1 was written on 2014-01-13 00:00:00 Matthew Carroll I learned a lot about the battles that took place in North and South Carolina during the Revolutionary War...also about the origin of different place names and different generals on both sides. Very interesting book! |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-10-02 00:00:00 Shana Gingerich Voices of the American Revolution in the Carolinas by Ed Southern Having visited two South Carolina Revolutionary War battle sites in September, 2012, I became intrigued with this era. I purchased this book from the National Park Service Visitor Center at King's Mountain Battlefield. It is a series of letters from patriots about the various battles. Because it is written in 1770's English, it is at times difficult to understand, but after reading a while, one develops a "new" vocabulary of archaic words and phrases, and it becomes very interesting. No one is so dastardly as the British commanders, Banastre Tarleton and Patrick Ferguson. Any war is awful, but back then there were no anesthetics or antibiotics. You cringe with pain for our heroes as they suffer and die. You laud their victories and triumphs. One understands the terrific sacrifices that were given, and realizes that without our patriots in South Carolina, we may very well have lost the war. I recommend this book to any history buff. |
