An older book that you may have to hunt to find, but it is well worth it. In the North Land, now known as Maine, the mountain Katahdin and the Atlantic Ocean were separated by distance and forest and each boasted of being the most beautiful place in the North Land. It was only when a bald eagle carried the boasts between the two forces of nature that trouble began and, using the eagle and a moose as messenger, each tried unsuccessfully to prove its dominance in the North Land. It was soon war. Katahdin's raging winds collided with the sea's fury. Thunderstorms, blizzards, and avalanches battled against floods and hurricanes. When the fighting stopped, the land between Katahdin and the ocean was destroyed, but then the mountain and ocean could finally see each other and acknowledge how magnificent they both were. Over time, snows from the mountain melted to create a network of flowing water that connected the mountain and the ocean and nurtured the barrens in between. Bold illustrations personify both the mountain and ocean and layer added drama to the words.

I read this book to my three year old daughter. She has been scared of zombies and I thought if we read a funny book about them it would make her look at them in a different light. She loved it. She thought all the scary creatures were silly and she couldn't for the life of her, figure out what the boy the story revolves around was doing with all these silly monsters.
