Review # 1 was written on 2016-06-09 00:00:00 Micheal Castiglione It's a snarky story of American History up to the assassination of president Lincoln. If you don't care for sarcasm then this isn't the book for you. |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-05-25 00:00:00 Brandon French This is a survey of American history from colonial times to the civil war. The information is presented in a humorous way in an attempt to make it more palatable. Unfortunately, because of the author's dry wit, it is often difficult to distinguish facts from puns. In some cases, truth is sacrificed for glibness (as is the case in the author's description of the Hunley, the first submarine to be used for military purposes). In addition, much of the author's humor is at the expense of modern Southerners, against which the author admits his bias. I had high hopes for this book, but many glaring deviations from the truth undermine this book's historical authority. Because of this, readers must find value only in the book's humor, of which there is little. |
