The story of a young woman pioneer who came to south west Saskatchewan with her husband to start a new life. The trails and tribulations she faced would have subdued a lessor person but not Mamie. The book is a tribute to the many hard working women who settled and carved out a life on the Canadian Prairie and gave their children and grandchildren an example of survival against all odds. Despite everything she loved the prairie as i and my wife do and she lived a good life. Great read.

The story of Mamie and her children is a wonderful glimpse into the life of one family that survived life on the prairie in the early 1900's until the 1990's. This was a time when "the prairie woman married early, gave birth often, worked until she dropped, loved everybody, forgave everything, endured all and cried buckets over the sins of her unrepentant menfolk. And when all was said and done, she's insist with her last breath that she'd had a wonderful life" (pg 111). This account was likely the account that many women could have written but few have. I am thankful that her granddaughter, Judy Schultz took the time to research her grandmother and mother's lives, and share the story with others.
