Review # 1 was written on 2010-05-04 00:00:00 Martin Gonzalez This book was written 20 years ago, which may be why some of the ideas that seemed cutting edge at the time seem a little shopworn now. That's the secondary ideas. The main ideas (laugh, keep your friends close, play, walk, take time apart, embrace the unknown, moodle) have been around forever and are all illustrated from the life and teaching of Jesus--more observe and imitate the Master than follow his prescription. Sweet's approach is much like standup comedy--if you say enough things fast enough, something is bound to stick. So he takes his main point and tries to express it in as many ways as he can think of and writing each one as cleverly as he can manage. So there are a lot of good one-liners in the book. Sometimes they get overwhelming. Sometimes just distracting. This might be a great approach for some readers. For me, though, just OK. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-10-27 00:00:00 Bob Canavan Does the life of Jesus show us how to live a healthy life? Sweet says it does. I would love to incorporate many of theese ideas into my life this year. I don't have to do them all at once, but I can explore them. Sweet combines stories about Jesus from the Gospels with the latest research from medicine and psychology. None of what I've read so far is startling or unexpected, but it's good to be reminded of healthy choices as I start the new year. |
